Franco López Supay
03 — 03Jean Franco López Ramírez was born on November 28, 2001, in Baños del Inca, in the province of Cajamarca, Peru. He was exposed to cameras from an early age, thanks to his family's camcorder. He emigrated to the capital to study film and managed to win the Stefan Kaspar community film showcase organized by the Chaski Group thanks to his short film AMAUTA (2020). After graduating, he returned to Cajamarca, where he formulated a theological theory regarding cinema. Drawing on the philosophies of Jean Epstein, Jean Rouch, and Maya Deren—and their concepts of "cine-trance" and animist cameras—Franco approaches filmmaking through a divine lens; for him, cinema is a form of prayer and a vital practice within his human experience.
